wanderer: a love letter to telescopes

spin out to the farthest edges of the universe
and take a picture of vast constellations never seen
so i may know where you have been
“wish you were here” splashed across the front.

take me home legends from other planets
full of heroes i have never heard spoken of
and unbearable evil that is always defeated
so many light years away.

tell me the secrets the stars whispered to you
etch them on your camera lens
because they slide off your memory
and drive you mad and pull you closer like hatters and mercury.

if ever you drift back to earth
you will fall down in pieces
shattering the sky, a promise
of a rain of shooting stars just for me.
